Thirteen years ago, when we moved here,

we got two golden retrievers, two puppies.

Ted and Bertie . . . . . . . from the same litter,  . . . . . brothers . . . . . . . . . . . .

Getting TWO brothers was a big mistake  . . . . . . . . . . . .

For the whole of their lives,

they have looked to each other for guidance and not to us!!

Oooooooooooooooh they have had their moments!!

But they have stuck to each other . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

always blaming the other one and saying "It wasn't me" . . . . . . . . .

Last week,  Ted's brother died . . . . . and Ted's been a bit lost.

Gucci has been sitting with him a lot . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Winstons finest hour . . . . . . !!

 

It was raining . . . . . . . . . . alot !! I was wearing my Cath Kidston tent!!

It was Egton show . . . . . . . and

Winston was entered into several highbrow, classes in the dog show . . . . . . . . . . .

Dog  . . . . . . . . . . . .judge would most like to take home? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Dog . . .. . . . . . . . . .with the nicest eyes?. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Veteran dog?  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Sausage retrieval? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

and all our hopes were riding on . . . . . . "Dog with the waggiest tail."

As our top, highly trained team entered the ring for the "dog with the waggiest tail"

we were nervous . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  

The judge checked out the wagginess of each dogs tail,

There was stiff competition . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The judge approached Winston. . . . . . Would this be his finest hour?

 

WINSTON GROWLED AT THE JUDGE. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Slasher strikes again!! . . . . . . . . . . . . . he did wag his tail alot as well. . . . .

but it was a big growl . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

 

He won anyway!!

We had friends round for a barbecue, last night, but when I said to them,

"Escape Posse"

I heard a  loud racket outside, and when I went out to investigate  . . . . . . . .

What should I find  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ?

 

An escape posse!! These are our four geese . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I was going to get around to showing you them  . . . . . . . . . but it looks like

I'll be doing it sooner rather than later . . . . . . . . . .

Only one of them has a name . . . . . .

the big white one, with a splash of Grey on it's wing.

It's called "Lavender", after our cottage, it was born the day we signed the contracts,

and we hatched it ourselves . . .  We didn't know it was a gander when we named it !!!!

But unfortunately, ( for Lavender ) the name stuck !!

They do not have access to the drive, or the garden as ( they do big poops everywhere )

They are normally quite happy in the field, or swimming on the river . . . . .

so what was going on ? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I followed them . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

 

How had they escaped ?

 

Just a little piece of wood missing under the gate. Can you see ?

 

Three times, they have done that today!!!

I have poop all over my garden!!

 

People don't imagine a "Rural Dream" with poop. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Do they?

They don't have poop in Country Living magazine either !!

Winston's red nose day

 

We bought Winston a laughter ball, he loved it!! It was hilarious . . . . . . . . .

We laughed and laughed!!!

 

So did the ball!!! Every time Winston touched it . . . . .It was soooooooooh

FUNNY!! I suppose you have to be there ,but my sides did ache. . . . . . .

Doesn't laughter burn lots of calories?

 

It was all a bit too much for Winston after over an hour of obsessive, play!!

Time Out!!!

"Bumble and Dylan"

 

It's time for another introduction . . . . . . . .meet . . . . . BUMBLE and DYLAN.

They live here at Bleach Green with us, and we foster them,

 for the Donkey Sanctuary based in Devon. We have loved them here,

for just over eight years now!! They are here to stay . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The tall one is Bumble and the one who looks as if he is "with child"

is Dylan they are both Irish, and love ginger snaps!!

They came to us with a reputation of being very naughty . . . . . .

Bumble had attacked someone . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .!!!

They had been out to four homes already . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

and been sent back to the sanctuary, because of bad behavior!!

We were their last chance of a family home.

They are very, very, lovable and cute. Cheeky Monkeys !!

The day the sanctuary  brought them up from Devon, and the wagon came

down the farm track, all I could hear was the sides of the wagon being

kicked . . . . . . . .  .It was so loud you could hardly here the engine.

I thought  . . .WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Out of the wagon popped these two . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  

and it took us three hours to get them to walk into the stable!

Eight years later and with lots of love they are fairly well behaved.

My gorgeous farrier says they are the best behaved donkeys he trims!

Bumble is very loving, but Dylan only ever does what he wants!

You've got to respect him for that!! Arn't they gorgeous?

 

"Mr Darcy and his girls"

 

This is Mr Darcy the most handsome cockerel in the world . . . don't you think?

Oooooooooooooooh Mr Darcy !! He lives with all his "girls in this pink,

Hen House, which Mr Charlton made for me . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

What other colour could it be?

  

We had to go to Leeds to get Mr Darcy and his girls as they are rare breed,

cochins. The elderly man ( still with a twinkle in his eye ) who bred him,

didn't want to part with him, so I had a lot of persuading to do . . . . . . . . .

I adore them. I love the little chucky noises they make as you approach the

hen house with a pan full of pasta!!

 

They have just started laying eggs again after their winter break . . . . . . . .

Cochins are beautiful birds so are not very productive on the egg front!!!!

Can't be beautiful and productive can we now? However I've had the first

two eggs for lunch today . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .and they were delicious!!

" Boris"

Let me introduce you to Boris our new cat . . . .

Here he is helping to get things ready for the "Fresh foliage wreath" course this afternoon at the cowshed . . . . 

To be honest he wasn't that helpful !!!!

He came from the R S P C A about six weeks ago and seems to be quite a character! 

He is having a great effect on our rabbit and mouse population . .

which i find strange, as he doesn't look like a thug!
